What is the meaning of the phrase "in their greasy glory"?

I'm not a native English speaker, so I can't understand the phrase which is from the article of the Time magazine. I put the whole sentence for the context. "Could he[Nixon] have survived Watergate if we had just read about his actions rather than heard them unfold in all their greasy glory?"
