How many and what kind of cichlids can I keep in a 60 gallon?

Hi I just bought a 60 gallon tank and set up and I've decided to make it a cichlid tank. I've always loved saltwater tanks so im a bit more attracted to the extremely colorful ones but don't want to mix and match at my fish's peril if they wont get along. if you have any suggestions for specific types of cichlids and the numbers they would be happiest in id love to hear it. Another question I had is if I can keep bamboo in the tank? I know they have a tendency to gnaw on all living things but would bamboo be ok since it has a harder exterior? thanks for the answers! wish me luck.
